The eighth empire: new hypotheses to the symbols of Revelation 17

Abstract

This paper focuses on the analysis of the prophetic symbols of Revelation 17 with the aim to find relations between the scarlat beast, the first beast of Revelation 13 and the dragon of Revelation 12. The study is made on the context’s basis of the seven plagues and the built parallel between the eschatological climax from Revelation 13 and 16-17, the same used as ground to suggest a relation between the leopard beast and the prostitute, and between two horns beast and the scarlat beast and its eighth king. At its very context, the text of Revelation 17 is regarded as a kind of investigative jugdement followed of the sentence execution over the prostitute (Ap 18). The eighth king is set apart from the religious power and is related with military and politic powers.
