The use of tv pictures in religious programs
Keywords:
Mídia, Religion, Igreja Mundial, Television, WorshipAbstract
Through a discourse analysis of St. Augustine´s writings about the concept of false, this paper articulates the role of the media in transforming the worship practices in the present time. Using the “Igreja Mundial do Poder de Deus”, represented by its religious leader Valdemiro Santiago, as an example, we suggest what is being produced does not portray an image of religious content, but a figure of empty worship. Thus, the issue revolves around the connection between the concept of false, the use of television and television programs that feature any religious material. It should prompt us to reflect on the problem represented by that connection.
