O PAPEL DO MINISTRO E DO ANCIÃO NO CUMPRIMENTO DA MISSÃO ADVENTISTA: 1844-1915

Abstract

O objetivo deste estudo é compreender o papel integrado do ministro e do ancião no cumprimento da missão adventista entre 1844 e 1915, com especial referência às orientações de Ellen G. White. Entre 1844 e 1863, ocorreu o período da formação de conceito do ministério pastoral e do ancião. A segunda fase, entre 1863 e 1901, foi caracterizada pelo aperfeiçoamento desse conceito. No último período, de 1901 a 1915, houve um processo de reafirmação do conceito. De forma geral, os ministros deveriam adotar um modelo apostólico de pastoreio, plantando igrejas, educando os membros em relação às questões espirituais, desenvolvendo planos missionários e mantendo uma linha de supervisão que atendesse às congregações. Quanto ao ancionato, eles eram considerados como pastores locais, representantes da igreja e responsáveis pelo desempenho missionário da congregação. A análise do entendimento do ministério do pastor e do ancião à luz da missão adventista durante o período estudado sugere que os ofícios deveriam se complementar. Enquanto o pastor se responsabilizava pela expansão evangelística, o ancião se comprometia com a manutenção dos crentes e o crescimento local.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to understand the integrative role of the minister and elder in the fulfillment of Adventist mission between 1844 and 1915, with particular reference to the guidelines of Ellen G. White. Between 1844 and 1863, it was the period of the training concept of the pastoral ministry and the elderly. The second phase, between 1863 and 1901, was characterized by the improvement of this concept. In the last period, 1901-1915, there was a concept of the restatement process. In general, ministers should adopt an apostolic model of grazing, planting churches, educating members regarding spiritual matters, developing mission plans and maintaining a supervisory line that met the congregations. As for elderly, they were considered as local pastors, church representatives and responsible for the performance of the missionary congregation. Analysis of the pastor’s ministry of understanding and elder in the light of Adventist mission during the study period suggests that the offices should complement each other. While the pastor was responsible for evangelistic expansion, the old man was committed to the maintenance of believers and local growth.
