Abstract

The present article is a proposal for reflecting about the use of the means of social communications as resources for evangelizing. It emphasizes the doors opened through the media in order to pursue for better evangelistic results. The author points to the possibilities for reaching out social insulating groups by using the media resources, but also he shows the presence of potential dangers and lethal risks, such as the sacrifice of the gospel content, the tentative of economic control, the rupture between the gospel preaching and human reality, the vulgarization of sacred religious concepts and symbols, and the loss of the socialized character of church as institution. As a tentative of reaching a balance, this paper proposes that the church recognize the potential of media for preaching and simultaneously be alert against the improper use of it to convey the gospel message. For attaining this goal, an especial precaution should be seriously taken: To protect the spirituality of cult as a private service of the church community and the searching for preaching financial supporters compromised to the gospel values.
