Abstract

This article briefly analyzes popular Protestantism in Latin America
from a historical and a Scriptural perspective. The first part deals with the origin
of Pentecostalism and its three historical waves. In the second part of the
research, there is an essay to describe the expansion of Pentecostalism in Latin
America, the beginning of its missions, and the Pentecostalism in Brazil. The
third part covers the relevance of this religious movement, its contributions and
implications. This investigation comes to an end arguing that the role of a
Church and of a religion is much more than just that of improving self-esteem to
people and empowering them.
