Resumo
George Steiner (1929-2020) foi uma figura imponente nas ciências humanas, que conseguiu conectar literatura, filosofia e pensamento judaico. Sua abordagem interdisciplinar e erudição o tornaram famoso e controverso. Seu livro After Babel [Depois de Babel] (1975) defende que a tradução é fundamental para a comunicação humana, interpretando a história bíblica de Babel como uma metáfora para a fragmentação linguística e propondo o Movimento Hermenêutico, uma teoria de quatro passos, para a transferência de significado entre línguas. O objetivo principal deste trabalho foi aplicar o modelo tradutório de Steiner à tradução da última carta descoberta de Ellen G. White, pioneira da Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia. Outros objetivos incluem o estudo do contexto da carta e a divulgação do modelo de tradução do Movimento Hermenêutico, de Steiner. Para isso, comentamos partes selecionadas da carta inédita e a elas aplicamos os quatro movimentos de Steiner. Também discutimos alguns desafios tradutórios no domínio das especificidades do Movimento Hermenêutico.
