Resumo

O texto de Gênesis 2:4b-3:24 traz um conflito envolvendo Deus, o primeiro casal humano e a serpente. Este artigo estuda o enredo dessa narrativa, com um foco nesse conflito, e busca definir suas proporções, para observar como a caracterização e apresentação dos personagens o afeta. As metodologias utilizadas foram uma revisão bibliográfica e uma leitura atentiva (close reading) do texto. Concluiu-se que a caracterização dos personagens e o enredo demonstram que o conflito apresentado vai além do contexto imediato e tem como ênfase uma batalha entre Deus e a serpente, com o seu centro sendo o caráter de Deus. O conflito é parcialmente resolvido dentro da perícope, mas existe a promessa de uma solução definitiva da parte de Deus.
