Abstract
Objective: This article deals with the formation of the Adventist education curriculum, aiming to understand to what extent the concept of integral education proposed for members of the denomination was influenced by the conception of the holistic nature of the human being; vision widely defended by the first Adventists who established themselves in the American Protestant scene of the 19th century with particular understanding, among them: the need to offer to the children of members an education in accordance with their religious principles.
Methodoloy: The theoretical-methodological assumptions of cultural history are used, crossing information from bibliographical and documental research; sources such as the magazzines Youth's Instructor and The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald that help us understand the notions of pedagogical and educational practices.
Results: Different models of interpretation of human nature and the scenario of American Christian education at the time are presented in opposition to the practices of public schools, analyzing how the proposal of an integral education among Adventists was debated and put into practice from the point of view of the integrality of the human being.
Conclusions: It is concluded that the conception of the human being as an indivisible unit, endowed with physical, social, moral, intelectual and spiritual faculties was decisive for the elaboration of the integral curriculum of the Adventist school; even if to materialize this in training and ideas was slow, arduous and laborious.
