Blind Review Process

Peer-review process

The evaluation process of the articles submitted to Kerygma involves two sequential stages: the desk review and the evaluation by peer reviewers.

In the desk review, the editors gather and analyze the received articles to assess their relevance to the scope of the journal and their potential to make a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of study, in accordance with the scope of the scientific journal. When necessary, the editors involve members of the scientific committee in this process. If the submitted work is not in line with the journal's policies, the authors are notified of the decision within thirty days from the submission date.

Articles approved in the desk review stage are forwarded to two experts who make up the journal's body of reviewers. They are chosen due to their outstanding knowledge of the article's area of debate. Typically, reviewers are professors and researchers associated with stricto sensu graduate programs at national or foreign educational institutions. All with at least a doctor's degree.

The double-blind review system is used for evaluation, where the reviewers do not know the declared authorship of the articles. Each reviewer must complete a questionnaire made available within the OJS system. The articles are evaluated considering the relevance of the subject studied, the wording, the logical chain of the theoretical review using appropriate references, the adequacy of the methodological procedures, the depth and consistency of the analyzes, the outline of the conclusions and the relevance of contributions. This stage of the evaluation process can last up to three months, and at its end, the authors are informed about the editorial decision.

Note: If there are disagreements between reviewers, editors may select a third reviewer or reject the manuscript.

What are the possible outcomes?

After the evaluation, the editors will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accepted;
  • Small fixes;
  • Required corrections;
  • Rejected.

Once the requested adjustments are made, they are verified by the peer reviewers and editors, the articles undergo spelling and grammatical correction, and formatting to comply with the journal's adopted standards and the final document layout.
