Abstract

Miracles are part of the biblical worldview and must not be considered a rupture with the natural order. Prayer to God, expectant faith, stimulus of the desire for living, therapeutic touch, and anointing may be theologically sound techniques of spiritual healing, while faith in one’s own mental power, visualization, search for healing in sacred places, veneration of relics, intercession of saints, use of sacraments, mediumistic surgeries, and past-life therapy are among those practices without biblical parallel or clearly condemned in the Bible. Biblical miracles, although always available, come in cycles. These cycles must not be taken in a dispensational fashion. A new cycle/wave of miracles is expected in the end-time, but the pentecostal/charismatic movements seem not to correspond to the biblical pattern. The Seventh-day Adventist Church, recovering something of its early charismatic impetus, should, with balance, pay more attention to the wholistic healing. It must combine the best of nature, the best of science, and the best of faith.
