The Sabbath School is the main religious education program of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its strategic relevance for Adventist ecclesiology and missiology resembles what discipleship was for the apostolic Christian church: its most important activity. Similarly to the discipleship model recorded in the New Testament, the practices of the Sabbath School encompass essential and complementary values of Christian discipleship. This article presents a biblical-theological analysis based on books, articles and academic materials, evaluating the biblical principles of Christian discipleship and the convergence between the practices of the Sabbath School and the method of discipleship designed by Jesus Christ, widely practiced by the Christian church of first century.
