A CRITICAL POSITION ON THE METHODOLOGY OF THE “HISTORICAL JESUS” BASED ON KARL POPPER´S WRITINGS

Abstract

For more than a century, researchers have sought a clearer and more accurate picture of who was the Jesus that lived in Galilee. However, advance of this research has led more and more scholars to the conclusion that the way that the quest for the "historical Jesus" has been accomplished has not been the best. This article proposes to evaluate the methodology of this line of research using the works of Karl Popper as theoretical framework. To achieve this purpose, only publications from 2000 to 2014 that deal with this methodology were evaluated, concluding that the quest for the "historical Jesus" was unable to fulfill its primary objective and that its methodology is questionable.
