“The living hive of practical christianity”: a project of membership’s engagement in evangelism.
Keywords:
growth, members’ involvement, spiritual gifts, “Hive”.Abstract
Although Adventist membership has experiencing a yearly steady growth, recent studies have demonstrated that such a growth is not greater because only 20% of its members are involved in the mission of the Church. This statistic show that in the Adventist Church only a minority of believers caries all the burdens, while a great majority remains inactive. The present study has the goal to verify how a project that fosters involvement of the members of a Church, on the basis of their engagement according to their gifts, would improve the fulfillment of the Adventist mission. It focused on the evangelistic approach known as the “Living Hive of Practical Christianity,” deployed in the pastoral district of Vila Rodrigues, in the city of Osasco, São Paulo, Brazil. This approach proposes that the local church departments should not only serve its internal public, but that they should also be active in the city’s community at large. The project presented positive results in the local churches where it was applied, doubling the percentage of members involved in direct evangelic actions, and increasing significantly the number of baptisms by the end of the year.
