The Relationship Between the Everlasting Gospel and the Worship in Revelation 14
Keywords:
Worship, Everlasting Gospel, Sabbath, Revelation 14.Abstract
In Revelation 14:6-7 one finds an invitation to worship God the Creator. Seventh-day Adventists have identified such worship with the observation of the holy day that was truly sanctified by God, the Sabbath. But what is the relationship between the Eternal Gospel and the Worship in this passage? The Eternal Gospel is God's plan of redemption for fallen man, in order to restore on him the image and likeness of the Creator. This plan leads the human being to recognize, through the worship and cult, the works of God as Creator, Redeemer and Judge. It is part of this plan to communicate the nature of Christ, that means, His Law,
which is the norm of the judgment and the worship to anyone who really desires to love and worship Him. Worship (proskuneo) is an action of reverence and recognition by God's redeemed creatures that adore and praise Him, and also obey His commandments (Rev. 14:12). God is venerated, recognized and worshiped because of what He has done, does and will do: Create, redeem, and judge. Verses 6 and 7 present these concepts. At the time of Creation, man used to present to the Lord a prefect worship and adoration, based in God's Law norm of love. For such a purpose, God designated the Sabbath as a day of worship and adoration, and it became the foundation of the true worship of YHWH. Revelation 14:6-7 invites man to return to Eden's worship by the obedience to the commandments of the Law, of which the Sabbath became one of the most perfect means to direct the mind and the heart to "Him that made the Heaven, and the Earth, and the Sea, and the fountains of water" (Rev. 14:6-7).
