Abstract

In view of the growing number of divorces and of single parent's families, the relevance of the presence of the father in the first years of the life of a child has being a contested issue in the academic field. To which point his absence has a negative impact in the development of the character of a child and on his emotions? Are there any emotional or behavioral consequences? The objective of this study is to examine the issue and look for answers to these questions. This research analyzed the meaning of family, and the relevance of fatherly affectivity. It also investigated the diverse models of fatherhood, and, in a practical side, where may occur sequels and the negative results of its absence.
