Although this chapter’s analysis of its first nineteen verses, containing the prayer of Daniel is overlooked by many. This research will focus precisely on these verses. The prayer of Daniel is analyzed in a context of covenant and conflict as indicated by its historical, literary and theological contexts. This context of covenant and conflict is revealed as the hermeneutic key to the correct understanding of Daniel's prayer and hence Gabriel’s response to him.
