Abstract

Pastoral visitation was a mean used by God since Eden. Jesus Himself visited the homes of Levi, of Peter´s mother-in-law, of Mary, Martha and Lazarus, and of tax-gatherers. This was also one of the main activities of the apostles such as Paul, who taught "from home to home" (Acts 20:20). However, pastoral visitation seems to have being recently left aside because of many factors, fact that seems to contribute to a lower growth in a member personal religious life and in the life of the Church in general. Coming from this perspective, this paper presents a field research among members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and try to delineate an actual picture of the pastoral visitation in some churches. The data shows that one in four adventists never received a visit form a pastor since his or her baptism. The research also implies that. in most cases, these members are those that do not have any charge in the church, they are mainly young people with little time as adventists. This papers calls out the pastoral body to a reflection on their views concerning the pastoral visitation.
